If you have ever wondered "How do I actually use AI to solve real problems? Can ordinary people build with AI? What opportunities are there beyond coding?" โ this session is for you. It shows how to put AI to work on the day-to-day operational problems that slow businesses and organisations down.
The problem
Most South African businesses do not fail because of one big disaster. They drown in small operational problems: customer messages that go unanswered for days, invoices typed out one by one, stock that nobody is tracking properly, the same questions asked a hundred times, hours lost to paperwork and admin. The owner is the receptionist, the bookkeeper, and the marketer all at once. There is no money for expensive software or a team of developers, so the work piles up and growth stalls. The tools to fix this have always felt locked behind coding skills most people never had a chance to learn.
How AI solves it โ real-world application
The good news is that today you can build AI-driven solutions without writing a single line of code. Using everyday AI assistants and no-code tools that connect apps together, an ordinary person can set up a chatbot that answers customer questions on WhatsApp around the clock, automate the boring work of sorting emails and drafting replies, pull numbers out of invoices automatically, and generate reports that used to take a whole afternoon. You describe the problem in plain language, you connect the tools, and the AI does the repetitive work. This is not about replacing people โ it is about freeing the owner to actually run and grow the business instead of drowning in admin.

What it can earn you (potential value)
These figures are indicative of what's possible, not a guarantee โ your results depend on your clients and effort. Many businesses will gladly pay to get their time back. Setting up a WhatsApp customer-service bot or an automation that saves a business several hours a week might be priced at R3 000 to R8 000 per setup, plus a small monthly support fee of R500 to R1 500 to keep it running. Helping three businesses set things up and supporting six on monthly retainers could realistically build to around R8 000 to R18 000 a month. As you get faster and your reputation grows, you take on bigger clients and the numbers climb with you.
