We opened Season 6 with a simple promise: stop showing you what AI could do for important people somewhere else, and start showing you what real people, people like your cousin, your neighbour, the lady selling kotas at the corner, are already building right now.

The problem

For most of us, AI still feels like something that happens to other people. Big companies in Sandton, tech founders overseas, the news telling us robots are coming for our jobs. Meanwhile a salon owner in Tembisa is still writing bookings in an exercise book, a tutor in Mthatha is losing students because she can't keep up with WhatsApp messages, and a matriculant in Soweto has a brilliant idea but believes "people like me don't build apps." The tools have arrived, but the belief that we can use them has not. That gap, not access, is the real problem.

How AI solves it — real-world application

STACU (Start, Test, Adapt, Create, Use) is the platform we built to close that gap. It's not a coding bootcamp. It's a place where you bring a real problem from your own life and walk out with something that works. People use everyday tools, Claude or ChatGPT for the thinking, no-code builders like Lovable or Bolt for the app, Google Sheets and WhatsApp for the plumbing, and STACU guides them step by step.

Some real examples from the community:

  • Nomsa, a hair stylist, described her booking chaos to Claude and got a simple WhatsApp-linked booking page built in an afternoon. No more double-bookings.
  • Sipho, a part-time tutor, built an AI helper that drafts replies to parent questions and turns past papers into practice quizzes, so he could take on more students without burning out.
  • A church group built a small tool to track contributions, replacing a battered notebook everyone was afraid of losing.

None of them were programmers. They were builders the moment they decided to try.

What it can earn you (potential value)

This is indicative, not a promise, but it shows what's realistic. Once you can build a simple working tool, you can offer it as a service.

Imagine you build small WhatsApp booking or stock-tracking tools for local businesses. If you charge R1 500 once-off to set one up and land just 3 clients a month, that's roughly R4 500/month. Add a small R150/month support fee per client, and after six months of steady building you could have 15 clients paying support: another R2 250/month on top, with new setups still coming in. So a realistic range for a committed beginner is roughly R3 000–R8 000/month within the first year, growing as your reputation does. Your earnings depend on your effort, your area, and how well you serve people, not on luck.
